Frequently Asked Questions
What does the abbreviations FSGMP and RGP stand for?
The Fort Stewart Growth Management Partnership (FSGMP) is the organization tasked with completing the Regional Growth Plan (RGP).
What is the FSGMP?
The Fort Stewart Growth Management Partnership (FSGMP) is a four-county multi-governmental entity created by the cities and counties, through local governmental memorandums of understanding, to foster economic growth and to promote the general welfare of the region.
Which Counties participate in the FSGMP?
The counties of Bryan, Liberty, Long, and Tattnall comprise the four-county partnership.
Where did the funding come from to develop the FSGMP?
The U.S. Department of Defense, through its Office of Economic Adjustment (OEA) provided the funding to the Liberty County Board of Commissioners for this project.
Who is developing the Regional Growth Plan?
The FSGMP has retained two planners to lead the planning effort. The staff, together with the consultants and community stakeholders, will work to complete the plan by June 2010.
But the 5th Brigade Combat Team (BCT) isn’t coming, why are we still doing the Regional Growth Plan?
The impetus for the grant and RGP was in response to the December 20007 announcement of the new brigade, which was cancelled in June 2009. However, historical growth at Fort Stewart, along with the planned growth not associated with the new brigade warrant this study. The partnership will complete a plan that is a proactive document to prepare for future growth, rather than a reactive plan.
What is the Scope of Work for the RPG?
The project will address the existing conditions and forecast growth conditions to identify future community needs. The specific elements of the plan include…
- Economic Impact
- Education
- Environmental Impacts
- Health and Social Services
- Housing
- Public and Private Utilities and Infrastructure
- Public Safety and Emergency Services
- Quality of Life
- Transportation
- Workforce Development
